A few years ago we started offering SharePoint 2010 public websites for schools. This was done because handling permissions for such sites can be tied to our logins. We initially created external sites for schools that parents and the public could visit and then created a secure area or intranet for staff and students to collaborate.
A number of schools took up this approach and we still support this offering.
Late in 2015, building on the back of MyBiz, Global School Budget systems, standardised record folders for schools, SAIS and a redesigned intranet layout for schools to communicate online with staff and council – School Central was born and has been rolled out to all Government Schools.
We found that although SharePoint was functional, it didn’t have the features required for a responsive layout that could be easily maintained and display nicely on mobile devices like phones.
